While we are doing this kayaking journey because we want to, we are also hoping to raise money for Bobath Scotland and MND Scotland. Both these charities are close to our hearts and important to us at a personal level.
Every six hours a child is born who will be diagnosed with cerebral palsy. As the most common physical disability in childhood – affecting posture, movement speech and vision - life can be challenging for people who are living with the condition.
Bobath Scotland is a Scottish charity devoted to improving the quality of life for children and adults with cerebral palsy. We provide vital therapy at our Glasgow-based centre, supporting both the individual and their family/carers in a relaxed, non-clinical and fun environment. Bobath input enhances each person’s mobility, communication and independent living skills and thus their everyday quality of life. You can find out more at www.bobathscotland.org.uk |
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) damages and destroys the neurones that carry messages from the brain to the muscles. Once these motor neurones have been damaged messages cannot reach the muscles leading to weakness and, eventually, paralysis. Approximately 130 people are diagnosed with the disease in Scotland each year.
MND Scotland is the only Scottish charity providing care and support to people with MND, their families, friends and carers. We provide a wide range of services, information about MND, and funding for research. Through education, campaigning and research, we work collaboratively to ensure that people affected by MND have access to the highest quality care and support.
